Burlesque Amadeus - Sexy, Intriguing - the Burlesque Mask Ball
When we first walked in it was to be faced with a rather glamorous mix of people and a Diva Von Teese-lookalike taking her clothes off on the floor. Ten minutes later, the performance done and nipple tassels revealed, we made our way to the bar. It was then I realised my mistake. It was a masked party and like a fool I'd forgotten my mask.
All around me were feathers, top hats, fascinators, corsets, spiralled curls and legs. Everyone had made an effort, and me? Well perhaps I was the missing jester. Once at the bar I ordered my very own Marie Antoniette and surveyed the venue.
To think of Corsets & Diamonds as just a place to see burlesque dancers is to miss the point. C&D not only has beautifully dressed clientelle, it has cocktails, cupcakes, market stalls and even makeup artists. Its a 'If you pull on a dress, we'll do your hair and sell you the accessories' kind of event.
The music spans from jazz to classic to retro, the dance floor is minimal, the wait at the bar can sometimes be long and the burlesque enthusiasts can outnumber the lesbians but overall, this event is well worth a night out.
