Theatre review: The Darlings: Straight –Talking

Sunday 19th May, 4pm: Karamel, Wood Green

This weekend London’s lesbian community theatre troupe The Darlings, previously The Drill Hall Darlings, offered a one-off performance with some ‘Straight Talking’.  The show’s the six cast members recounted various stories, some personal others humorously fictional, throughout the hour-long performance.
Through engaging story-telling the show touched on a wide range of topics including coming out, first loves, aging, identity, children and love triangles. Often told with tongue-in-cheek or self-deprecating humour, this great assortment ensured that there was something for everyone in the audience. It was clear that the cast had great fun creating and performing the show, but the troupe are also doing some important work by telling the stories of lesbians from various walks of life.

With tea room style seating and tea and scones served at the bar, this was also an excellent social afternoon with the chance to meet new people in a friendly environment.

And remember The Darlings welcome new members so if you’d like to stretch your amateur dramatic muscles, get in contact with them, via their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/darlingslondon?fref=ts
