In the lively Holborn, every other month on the second Saturday you will find a haven for the older more discerning lesbian. Yes it is true, they’re not sitting at home watching TV, they’re not at some knitting group – they’re at Luscious. A funky disco club night hosted by Soraya Khan (known for Oak Bar and Pout) at The Square Pig and Pen on Procter Street.
The venue is quite amazing, when you arrive there is a lovely partially covered outside terrace for the smokers who haven’t transferred over to electronic cigarettes yet! The ground floor is a large space with tables for a relaxed atmosphere to chat with friends.
Downstairs is where the magic happens. Arrive early for a chilled dance space with mood lighting. Again a great sized space with plenty of room to dance, with sofas dotted around for those who prefer to watch from the sidelines. Once it gets to after 10pm the dancefloor is transformed by low lighting and the dancing really kicks off.
Soraya is the hostess with the most, not only providing this fabulous venue, but spinning the funky disco tunes that has the women shaking all night as DJ 9Star.
I was on the younger side of the customers, being in my very early 30s and I found myself thinking that I want a night like this to be available when I am in my 40s and 50s and I hope I have the energy to be shaking my booty on the dance floor into the early hours the way that all these lovely ladies were – only time will tell for me.
If you haven’t checked out Luscious yet I highly recommend you put on your dancing shoes and head on down to the next Luscious in October.
