Prom graduates to Carnival

Following the It's MissFit Lesbian Prom in May, founders DJ Sandra D and Effi Mai jumped at the chance to follow up with another multi-club night at the iconic Scala, this time themed Carnival. 

Working in collaboration with Bar Wotever and DOMO, Carnival was the perfect night for all of us who have tastes and tendencies outside of the mainstream.

Entering into the Wotever queer space with face-painting, quiff photo booths and rocking tunes to dance to from the likes of Hug the DJ, the carnival opened up. 

In the main room, DJs Sandra D and D'afro controlled the decks, keeping the party beat alive, before two massive live sets from Bela Takes Chase and Neon Jungle (and an interluding beatboxer!). 

Upstairs, DOMO was a popular space with hundreds of girls partying away to some great tunes in a body positive, and toy-duck filled room, with guest DJ Bethany on the decks.

From MissFit, the team (Effi Mai and DJ Sandra D) that currently run LBQ nights at Stokey Stop (TLC on Fridays, MissFit on Saturdays) and who were involved in the large multi-partner event G3:PM.

Lauren Chvrches

With fantastic headline acts: Lauren Mayberry from Chvrches DJing in the Attic Space, and Charlie XCX fresh from recording with Iggy Azalea on the main stage plus plenty of special guests such as hip hop duo Red N Pink, and DJs, this was always going to be a big night on the LBQ calendar. 

Adam All's Boi Box had a full programme of Drag Kings singing on the first level bar. Favourites Rogue and Tyler & Jack among many on the long line up delighted well dressed prom-goers throughout the evening. Barberette Klara offered moustache decorating so all guests could join in the Dragging!

In the main room, DJs kept the dancefloor packed for the whole night rocking fantastic current chart club classics. 

The VIP room had sofas, goody bags and free champers for guests as well as hostess Chloe Akam making sure everyone kept very happy. Prom punch, drink offer on the night, was flowing and flowing.

Charlie XCX

The top floor Attic, "alternative" prom played a more indie focused set of tunes with an edge and again kept the floor moving in style with the delighting tuxes and dresses. 

It's great to see such a fantastic line up on offer for the LBQ women of London, and hundreds of women coming together to enjoy and support this kind of event.

Bigger is Better: G3:PM Review

Despite the cold wait in the queue and the slow entry process (we have been promised a slicker process next time to get us all in as quickly as possible) it was great to be back at old faithful Scala.

This 4 in one event brought together some of the best of a broad range of events aimed at lesbians & bi women and the genderqueer of London. It feels like the return of the superclub, where different rooms host different banging tunes, live music, wild entertainment and plenty of women.

The venue lent itself pretty well to the split of events. Stav B's Intergalactic Alchemy held court in the first floor and bar area, with cool retro tunes, live performances, fire eaters and for something different a face painter and Barber shop decorating the guests throughout the night. It was interactivity and abstract at its best in the way things worked together.

The main dancefloor and stage hosted Ruby Tuesdays with a full line up of DJs throughout the night, and headline act Peaches who was amazing singing, MCing and mixing the decks. She was clearly a popular draw and the guests fled to the dance floor when she came on stage, for a well executed, flamboyant, edgy, class act show.

The top floor, from Club Boy vs Club DIP, hosted some live music throughout the night and provided another bar to purchase drinks.

The G3 hosted VIP lounge looked very popular but we weren't VIP enough to make it inside.

Bar prices were typical central London prices, although Red Stripe Beer was on offer. We did have to wait 20 minutes to be served at one point... but that just proves there were a lot of women there. 

It was an interesting, fun and successful night; really great to see a collaboration of 3 very different events - can't wait for the next one.

We're confident this won't be a one-off since it was so successful, and it was really good to see such a wide range of women in one space, which was down to the excellent choice of such diverse event organisers. It would have been so easy to have chosen 3 events that had overlapping customer bases, but this was not the case, and the event was all the better for it!
