Let's Get Quizzical!

A typical Monday night in Soho turned into a fun night out with friends as She launched it's monthly quiz night, She's Quizzical.

Ten rowdy teams of up to 4 women crammed into the bar (don't worry the whole other side is still free for more teams next month!) as Amy B gave an unintentional comedy compere performance, quiz mastering 8 rounds, mixing general knowledge, lesbian interest, song lyrics, TV theme tunes and a cheeky beverage based picture round.

With questions that shouldn't stump most people (you don't have to have been on Mastermind), it was a very accessible quiz in a lively and sociable environment.

To give you a taster, a few of our favourites were:
- which famous out actress directed episode 3 of Orange is the New Black
- who voiced Dory in Finding Nemo?
- what line comes next in this song? 'near, far, wherever you are; I know that the heart does go on'

Some quizzes can be too long; others too hard; some just plain frustrating. Amy did an amazing job at pitching this just right. Our comedy favourite moment of the night was Amy admitting that she was going to pronounce UEFA as 'U' 'E' 'F' 'A' but her girlfriend set her right.

Oh and there were free shots to anyone who could identify the theme tune from Bad Girls - as Amy herself admitted "it gets her loins burning"!

To top it all off; the winning team gets to choose the charity to receive the entry fee (£1 per person) plus a bottle of bubbly and some free entry tickets to future She events. We chose The L Project as our charity ;-)
Next month's event will be a special fundraiser for Pride in London to help raise the visibility and participation of women at Pride, and Planet London will be helping out. More information about this, and the other fundraisers in May and June can be found here.

We definitely recommend arriving early as this quiz will only grow in popularity. The quiz starts at 7pm and is the last Monday of every month. £1 entry, teams up to 4 and the usual great drink offers to boot.

Also, don't forget to flash your My Pocket Planet app at the door to get a stamp (just like in Costa Coffee but with better rewards!). Collect 4 stamps to get fee entry for 2 on a Saturday or Sunday with a free glass of bubbly!

Blush Bar customers like it hard!

We popped along to one of the longest running lesbian bars in London, Blush Bar for their weekly quiz night.

It is quite a trek for us, being from South London, but as an after work trip it is reachable from the City on just one bus (76).

Blush Bar is a very relaxed bar with friendly staff and customers. Siobhan runs the quiz on Wednesdays, which was heavily attended tonight and the bar feeling pretty full, although we all certainly could have cosied up to make more space for additional quizzers.

By Siobhan's own admission, geography isn't her strong point, but that didn't stop her slipping in a couple of questions on the subject. Thankfully spelling is her forte as a couple of teams (ours included) fell for that old chestnut where you can't see a letter that is staring you in the face!

The quiz itself is very fun and unpretentious. At half time you can top up your drinks and freshen up whilst quizmaster provides the odd clue if perhaps you've gone off piste with an answer (but only if you don't talk over her during the quiz!). There was even a more 'highbrow' picture round this time, by popular demand (apparently).

The end result was close with most teams scoring between 44 and 51.

The night was for us very enjoyable, and worth the 3 buses it takes to get home! We're really proud to have such a friendly, clean, well looked after bar and encourage you all to support it by going once in a while. We'll be going back to try their infamous sell-out Sunday lunches. At just £8.50 we're already sold and we hear the homemade desserts are equally as yummy!
