Get down girl, oh hey get down

If a sign of a good night is a pulled muscle from dancing too hard, well then what a night!
Friday night saw the launch of a new night for LBQ women - in North London no less!

Down Girls snuck onto the scene with only 2 weeks notice and even with only a short window of promotion, it managed to deliver beyond expectation.

Run by Back to the Wildroom (Leanne and Jon - old school friends) and hosted by The Black Cap; Down Girls NW1 is the latest night to hit the LBQ scene.

A few things to spark your interest:
- it is a ground floor space!! (although there isn't a disabled toilet)
- the night is more than a standard club night and features entertainment
- 9-10pm is a mingle for solo women and groups to make friends and extend their social circles

This is clubbing recharged and reloaded. Hey, it kept me out until past 2.30am - yes this night ends at 3am so you really get your money's worth.

The venue had been decorated with pink arches of helium balloons and the bar was covered in painted mannequins. The scene was set and the women descended (quite literally as many took advantage of the food and drinks on offer in the upstairs bar in advance of the night kicking off).

The social mingle from 9-10pm, hosted by Planet London, provided some fun games to help engage conversation. People Bingo meant everyone had to find 6 different women who met certain criteria such as 'has a tattoo' and 'doesn't know more than 3 people here'. The lucky winner, Fanny, won a Planet London goody bag! It was a huge success with many women meeting new people, and the women who arrived on their own were soon conversing with new friends.

Down Girls presented two burlesque performances during the night by 3 different acts; at 11:30pm and 1:00am. We were delighted to top quality performances by Ruby Fortune, Leela and Harlow Heartbreak. Each act performed one song in each set; and the DJ spun a track between each act which kept the audience interested and engaged.

DJs for the night were DJ Amy B (from Chick Habit and SHE) and DJ Poppy Kav (who has just returned from a tour of the States). Both provided great floor fillers meaning that the dance floor was filled for pretty much most of the night.

The night will be back on Friday 30 May, and will be working with Planet London to raise money for Pride in London's campaign to increase the visibility and participation of women at Pride. We urge you to join us and find out what the fuss is about. We guarantee you will have a blast. Find out more about the Proud Planet campaign here.
