A virgin speed dater… I was excited
and nervous as I walked down the stairs into a classy, cozy back room of the new
SHE-Soho bar, where dim lighting, comfortable armchairs and little tables were
set up perfectly for living room style conversations. I was immediately greeted
by the Pink Lobster crew, offered a glass of pink champagne, an
instruction/note-taking pamphlet and a tray of treats for the evening. Pink Lobster Dating partnered up with
SHE-Soho for the second “Fancy a Femme” speed dating event. This time, the
theme of the event was “Femme Food Fun.” (How could I resist the thought of a
night revolving around free food, drinks and femmes?!)
Some of the instructions we received
included: “Feed her in a fun and flirty way” and “Let her choose something from
your tray. Would you prefer she left all the sweeties for you?” The treats
ranged from gourmet cupcakes to cold chips, so they certainly offered food for
thought.
Before the anticipated event got
underway, Director of Pink Lobster Dating, Juliette Prais gave a little pep
talk on lesbian myths, and sex expert, Emma Ziff followed up with some common
assumptions about lesbian sex before they briefly introduced the event. They perfectly
set the mood for us apprehensive daters before we were launched into the exciting
speed dating experience.
Women talking, whistles
blowing, and positions changing at four-minute intervals: it was the most
civilized commotion imaginable, with lipstick lesbians rotating around the
stylish basement bar.
After two hours, everyone had spoken with everyone else, and it was finally time to share the snacks- which everyone was too busy to eat- and grab drinks at the bar. Almost everyone stuck around, so it seems the event definitely fuelled fruitful introductions!

I would definitely venture again
–depending on whether or not the woman I have my eye on matches me back…fingers
crossed!
